Responsible gaming

If this stops being fun,
stop.

SharpCut exists to give people better information. It cannot make betting safe, it will not make you money, and it is no use at all to someone who has lost control. This page is the most important one on the site.

  • 18+ only
  • We hold no funds

Things we want to be blunt about

  • Betting is not a way to make money. The overwhelming majority of people who bet lose money over time. Better information improves your odds; it does not reverse them.
  • No prediction is a guarantee. When we say 71%, we are also saying that it loses about three times in ten. Anyone promising certainty is lying to you.
  • Gambling is genuinely addictive. It acts on the same reward pathways as other addictions, and it can take hold of people who never expected it to.
  • Never bet money you need. Not rent, not school fees, not food money, not borrowed money, not money that belongs to someone else.
  • Never bet to recover a loss. This is the single most reliable way to turn a bad Saturday into a disaster. A slip staked in anger is the one SharpCut is most likely to mark red.

An honest self-check

Answer these truthfully. Nobody sees your answers — they aren't sent anywhere and this page has no tracking.

  1. Have you bet more than you planned to, more than once, in the last month?
  2. Have you tried to win back money you lost, on the same day you lost it?
  3. Have you borrowed money — from anyone, including an app — in order to bet?
  4. Have you lied to someone about how much you bet, or hidden it from family?
  5. Do you think about betting when you should be working, studying or sleeping?
  6. Have you missed a bill, a meal or an obligation because of money you staked?
  7. Do you feel restless, anxious or irritable when you try to cut down?
  8. Has anyone who cares about you told you they're worried about your betting?

Even one “yes” is worth taking seriously. Two or more, and we'd genuinely rather you closed this tab and spoke to someone on the list below than carried on using our product. That is not a formality — a user in trouble is not a customer we want.

Practical steps that actually work

🚫

Self-exclude at the bookmaker

Sportybet, Bet9ja and BetKing all offer self-exclusion. It's the single most effective step available, and it takes minutes.

📵

Install a blocker

Gamban and BetBlocker are free and block thousands of gambling sites across all your devices, including this one.

💳

Ask your bank for a gambling block

Most Nigerian banks can block gambling merchant categories on your card. Call them and ask.

💵

Set a hard weekly limit

Decide the amount before the week starts, in cash if you can, and treat it as spent the moment you set it aside.

🗣️

Tell one person

Secrecy is what lets it grow. Telling a single person you trust changes the dynamic more than any app setting.

⏸️

Take a real break

Not “after this weekend.” Thirty days, starting now. If that feels impossible, that is itself the answer.

What we do on our side

  • We hold no money. There is nothing to deposit, no balance to chase and no withdrawal to delay.
  • We cap our own stake advice. Recommendations use quarter-Kelly sizing, which is deliberately conservative.
  • We cap the slip, not just the stake. A slip that carries negative value is marked as one, however sweet the odds look.
  • We don't send win-back messages. No “come back and try again” notification after a losing day. Ever.
  • We publish our losses. The track record includes every losing month.
  • We don't market to under-18s, and we close accounts we believe belong to minors.
  • You can delete everything from settings, immediately, without talking to anyone.

If you want us to close your account because of gambling harm, email support@sharpcut.ng with the word STOP in the subject line. We'll close it the same day and we will not send you a win-back message afterwards.
